Help Create Warmth For Veterans With Handmade Quilts
Every stitch tells a story, and this fall, your quilting skills can tell one of gratitude, honor, and comfort to those who’ve served our nation. The American Red Cross is once again calling on generous and talented people like you for its annual “Quilts for Veterans” project, now underway through November 11, 2025.
Since the program began in 2022, hundreds of handmade quilts have found their way into the arms of veterans across our region. These gifts of warmth and kindness are distributed to VA hospitals, transitional homes, and community events like “Stand Down,” where they are received with deep appreciation. And every year, the need continues to grow.
ARE YOU A QUILTER? WE NEED YOUR HELP!
If you’re someone who loves to quilt or perhaps you have more finished projects than you know what to do with, this is a meaningful way to put your talent to work. Each quilt is more than fabric and thread; it’s a way to remind our veterans that they are remembered, valued, and deeply appreciated for their service and sacrifice.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION
Here are some details you need to know to make your quilt and fleece blanket donations:
- Quilts must be new or made from new materials.
- They can be handmade or newly purchased.
- New fleece blankets are also welcome.
- Because many quilts will be used in hospitals and care facilities, they must be durable enough to handle commercial washing and sterilization. Please avoid loose yarns or strings.
THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
Once a veteran receives a quilt, it becomes theirs to keep; something comforting they can take home after leaving the hospital or facility.
Donating is simple: just bring your quilt or fleece blanket to any Gate City Bank location by November 11.
It’s a small act with a big impact. What better way to say “Thank you for your service” than with the gift of a cozy, handcrafted quilt! It's the perfect heartfelt hug from kind people like you. Thank you in advance!
