Popular Kitchen Scale Is Being Recalled
When it comes to cooking, some people weigh their food items to help them stay within a weight loss guideline. Other people use the scales in the kitchen to ensure their recipe comes out the way they want it to.
If you are one of the many folks who uses a scale in the kitchen, you might want to make sure it wasn’t from the company that just recalled over 340,000 scales.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported late last week that the Greater Goods Company recalled thirteen models of their kitchen scales because they violate federal guidelines for products that contain coin or button cell batteries.
One of the biggest appeals of the to these scales was that they were very low cost, around $10 and were widely sold at the Greater Goods website as well as on Amazon and at Wal-Mart.
The kitchen scales in question contain a lithium coin battery that can easily be accessed by children. There is also a spare battery that comes with the scale that is not in a child resistant package.
This poses an ingestion hazard for children.
The recalled scales come in a variety of colors; green, black, gray, blue, pink, red, silver and white. The model numbers are 0480, 0455, 0456, 0458, 0473, 0479, 0481, 0747, 0748, 0749, 0751, 0752, and 0754.
The Greater Goods logo is in the upper left corner of each of these scales.
Consumers should immediately remove the battery from the scale and put it in a place where kids can’t get to them, and then contact Greater Goods for a recall kit.
