ST. CLOUD - Police say a Milaca man is in the hospital after he was shot in St. Cloud early Wednesday morning.

St. Cloud Police responded to a report of a gunshot in the 1300 block of 15th Street North just before 2:00 a.m. Officers learned that a 28-year-old man from Milaca had shown up at St. Cloud Hospital with a gunshot wound to his torso. Police also found narcotics at the scene.

Officers on scene determined the shooting happened outside, most likely between two apartment buildings.

At about 2:30 a.m. Police spotted a vehicle in the 1900 Block of 7th Street North. A traffic stop was done at 26th Avenue South and 5th Street North. Two men were inside the vehicle that matched descriptions given by witnesses at the scene.

Police say 28-year-old Timothy Rootes of St. Cloud had a felony Department of Corrections warrant out for his arrest and 25-year-old David Nowlan of St. Cloud was found to be on probation. Both were arrested and were taken to Stearns County Jail.

Both of their original offenses regarding the warrant and probation were related to drug offenses.

St. Cloud Police say the investigation continues into their involvement in the shooting.

The man who was shot is in stable condition at St. Cloud Hospital (his name has not been released by authorities), he has not been cooperative with police and also had a felony warrant out of Mille Lacs County. He's under police supervision at the hospital due to his warrant.
