If there was ever a holiday to be celebrated, it's today -- National Jerky Day. So let's all chime in and let the world know who in Central Minnesota we think has the best.

Central Minnesota is blessed with several fantastic meat shops, and each has passionate fans singing their praises. While beef, bison, elk, venison, and turkey are the most common types in our neck of the woods -- other folks enjoy jerky made from alpaca, gator, duck, kangaroo, fish, ostrich, yak, boar, and snake. I've had salmon jerky -- good stuff.

Jack Link’s Beef Jerky and the Wisconsin Beef Council founded National Jerky Day in 2012.

Next time you're in the Cities you might want to check out the Beef Jerky Outlet in Eagan. Yep, you heard that right! The BEEF JERKY OUTLET. It's in the 'Twin Cities Premium Outlets' (3965 Eagan Outlets Pkwy, Eagan, MN 55122).

From the Beef Jerky Outlet:

Beef Jerky Outlet offers hand-made, small batch beef, pork and turkey jerky. Wild game jerky is also available in sticks and flats. Varieties include elk, venison, duck and pheasant, just to name a few of over 100 flarvors. Beef Jerky Outlet even offers exotic favors like kangaroo and alligator.

I've never been, but they have great online reviews, and I will certainly check it out the next time I'm in the area.
