I thought I would  give Sampson my Great Dane, some 'run' time by taking him to my parents farm yesterday.

SAY WHAT.....

Anyone who owns a Dane, know that when they've got something on their mind, there is nothing that's going to stop them from what they are doing. Last night was one of those nights.

BAD DOG...

As I was getting ready to head home, I called to Sampson, and heard him barking about 1/2 mile away....I ALSO heard a coyote, yelping. Yes. Sampson thought he would try to chase or find a coyote. Lucky me.

First...he listened to my calling him   He came right up to me when I called his name...I opened the car door. He barked at me and ran back to the fields. There's nothing I could do to get him in that car....no scolding, saying no...telling him to come...nope. He wasn't having it.

SERIOUSLY...

So I got in my car, and drove a little ways down the driveway. Immediately, my black shadow of a dog, ran back to the car. He didn't want me to leave without him. So I got out of the car, and opened his door again. Again...he barked at me and ran off into the field.

This pattern repeated about 5 times until he just didn't feel like running anymore, probably another 20 minutes.

FINALLY...

Finally the last time I opened the door, he jumped in the car. Unfortunately, he also took the field mud with him.

I was so ticked!!! BUT!   There is NO scolding a Dane. It doesn't work like that.  He knows when he's done something wrong. Like over the weekend I was gone, so he found my shoe and my brand new yarn, and took it to his special places. Luckily, he's learned that I'm not mad if he doesn't chew them up. He just wanted to sleep with my shoe. Gross.
