MN Gets a Smiley Face from Space

Tomorrow, Friday, April 25th, 20205, the heavens just might be smiling down upon you.

A 'triple conjunction' is going to occur tomorrow. The planets Venus and Saturn will be aligning in the early morning hours, forming what might look like to some a Smiley Face. :-)

THE SPACE SMILEY FACE IS HAPPENING FRIDAY, APRIL 25th 2025

As I arrived at work this morning, I saw the alignment, but all I could see from my viewpoint was the crescent moon looking like a smile. It was pretty neat. Maybe if I could have stayed outside for a few more minutes, I might have seen the planets as the eyes of the smiley face.

I did read in an online article that the space Smiley Face wouldn't be as prominent here in Minnesota as it will be for locations closer to the equator.

However, I reached out to Gary Boyle, The Backyard Astronomer, and he said that yes indeed, we should be able to see it, close to the horizon in the early morning hours. If it looks anything like it did this morning, I think it would be worth getting out of bed early for. I'm not sure that it's a photo opportunity unless you have a great magnified camera lens, but still worth seeing with your own two eyes.

INTERNET HYPE

The Smiley Face in the heavens will probably not appear vertically; it will be more off to the side, sort of like the smiley face that your teacher puts on your paper when you've done well on a test.
