Like everything else in the world, the price of hair care seems to have increased exponentially in the last few years. While a kid's haircut used to be $13 just a few short years ago, the price at our local place has jumped to $18 for a kid's haircut...

And don't forget the tip!

GET A PEDICURE, GET YOUR HAIR DID

The state of Minnesota actually has it cheaper than most other states when it comes to the cost of hair care. In fact, the average cost of hair care (a men's barbershop haircut and a women's shampoo, trim and blow-dry) in the Land of 10,000 Lakes is 'only' $70.43 according to WalletHub, which is the fourth-cheapest in the country when considered as a percentage of median monthly household income.

Minnesota was one of just four states to boast a monthly household income hair care cost of under one percent (0.97%), joining New Jersey (0.75%), Virginia (0.89%) and Utah (0.96%).

MEN vs WOMEN

The average price of a men's barbershop haircut in Minnesota ranks as the 16th-most expensive in the US, while women enjoy the 11th-cheapest cost.

“In the most expensive states, it can cost around 1.6% of the median household income for a man and a woman to each get a trim," said WalletHub's Chip Lupo. "While that might not seem like an overly high percentage, it’s still a lot when you consider how many other inflated expenses people need to cram into their monthly budgets.”

FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY

WalletHub also shares some tips for saving money on hair care including waiting an extra week, which would save a couple of visits per year; looking for coupons on websites or mobile apps; budgeting properly in advance; getting your haircut by students (St. Cloud's Model College of Hair and Design offers this); or you can do what I do and just cut it yourself!
