Some people are just lucky, I guess. A recent HUGE jackpot was won minutes from St. Cloud, and the amount won was pretty life-changing. This might change your mind about playing e-tabs or e-bingo the next time you go out to eat.

The luckiest bar in town?

Maynard's in Rogers has called itself the #BestBarInTown, and now the moniker of the Luckiest Bar In Town might be added to it, after a patron recently walked out after having won playing e-bingo. The lucky patron came out with a jackpot worth almost $175.000!

The official winning total was $174,496.39! I called Maynard's in Rogers and spoke with a manager on duty about what game the lucky person was playing at the time. Unfortunately the manager wasn't sure what specific game was being played, but did verify it was a e-bingo game that produced the prolific win.

2025 was a year of changes to e-tabs and e-bingo

On January 1st, a new law took effect that changed the way electronic games operated in Minnesota. The change affected e-tabs the most, outlawing the 'open all' feature, as well as the ability for games to bring a player to a 'bonus' round of play.

It was argued that e-tabs with these features were more like a slot machine than a pulltab, which e-tabs were supposed to be based on. With the changes taking affect, it wasn't clear if it would inhinit people from playing, and from what I've seen when I am out at a bar or restaurant, the changes haven't stopped people from pressing their luck.

But there was enough unhappy Minnesotans that there was a House bill that was authored to roll back those changes during the most recent legislative session, unfortunately for fans of the 'old' way of playing electronic gambling, there wasn't a companion drafted in the Senate, so it sat on the sidelines this year.

Maybe it will be back next year with additional Senate support?

Celebrate by buying a round!

Either way, a big congrats to the winner of that mega jackpot at Maynard's. When your check comes in a few weeks, make sure you offer up a round to the bar as a way to say thanks.
