Louisiana and Minnesota are about as different as two states can be.

One is known for bayous, crawfish boils, Mardi Gras, and year-round warmth. The other is famous for lakes, walleye, cabin weekends, and winters that make people question their life choices.

Those two worlds collide when country superstar Lainey Wilson takes the stage at WE Fest this August. Can our southern girl learn to love Minnesota Nice?

SHE'S SOUTHERN TO THE BONE

Wilson has never hidden her Louisiana roots. The Grammy-winning country star grew up in the small town of Baskin, Louisiana, and she's spent years celebrating Southern culture through her music, personality, and unmistakable accent. She's proudly country and proudly Louisiana.

Which got me wondering: If a Louisiana girl spent enough time in Minnesota, could we convince her to switch sides on a few things?

Let's put Minnesota and Louisiana head-to-head.

THE FOOD BATTLE

Crawfish vs. Walleye

Louisiana residents take crawfish very seriously. Minnesotans feel the same way about a fresh walleye dinner. Both are beloved traditions. Both inspire fierce loyalty. The winner probably depends on whether Lainey prefers Cajun seasoning or a Friday night fish fry.

COMFORT FOOD BATTLE

Gumbo vs. Tater Tot Hotdish

This one may seem unfair. Gumbo is packed with bold flavors, spices, and generations of family tradition. Minnesota counters with the mighty tater-tot hotdish. Will hotdish ever defeat gumbo? Probably not. But Minnesotans aren't backing down from the challenge.

WATER BATTLE

Bayous vs. Lakes

Louisiana has scenic bayous winding through the countryside...(I've never been there). Minnesota has more than 10,000 lakes. Honestly, this might be the toughest contest on the list. Both states have built entire lifestyles around spending time on the water.

WILDLIFE BATTLE

Alligators vs. Mosquitoes

Louisiana has giant alligators. Minnesota has mosquitoes big enough to make you wonder if they're carrying luggage. No one wins this category.

ACCENT BATTLE

Southern Drawl vs. Minnesota Nice

Lainey's Southern accent is instantly recognizable, but imagine introducing her to a Minnesotan conversation filled with "you betcha," "ope," and "just gonna sneak right past ya." That alone might be worth the trip.

PARTY BATTLE

Mardi Gras vs. Minnesota Summer

Louisiana knows how to throw a party, but Minnesotans would argue that lake weekends, county fairs, outdoor concerts, and WE Fest create a summer atmosphere that's hard to beat.

Different styles. Same goal.

FRIENDSHIP BATTLE

Southern Hospitality vs. Minnesota Nice

This might be the most interesting match-up. Both states pride themselves on treating people well, helping neighbors, and making visitors feel welcome. The truth is, there may not be a winner here. Maybe what it means is....we don't want Lainey to be anything other than herself...and we want her to know that she will be welcomed with open arms when she visits us this summer.

As for Lainey Wilson, something tells me she'll always be loyal to Louisiana. I'm hoping that when she leaves Minnesota, she'll be craving walleye, talking about cabin life, and wondering why everyone keeps saying "ope." If she does, we'll consider that a victory.

Welcome to Minnesota, Lainey. The lakes are ready, the hotdish is waiting, and we're prepared to make our case.
