Massive Expansion Now Coming to Minnesota’s MSP Airport
They say the only constant is change, and things will soon be changing again as a massive expansion has just been announced at Minnesota's busiest airport.
The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is the largest airport in the North Star State. So it's no surprise that a LOT of Minnesotans (and Iowans and Wisconsinites and others) head through the TSA checkpoints at both of MSP's two terminals each year when traveling across the country and overseas.
It helps that you can fly to A LOT of different places directly from MSP without having to catch a connecting flight elsewhere. In fact, the airport says that airlines at MSP served 163 nonstop destinations from the Land of 10,000 Lakes in 2023, up from 156 destinations in 2023 and 145 destinations in 2022.

And now, the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), which owns and operates MSP, just announced a massive new expansion for its Concourse G. In case you haven't noticed, MSP has been working to expand Concourse G for several years now, and finished its first phase back in 2022. That addition added 50,000 square feet between gates G17 and G22, MAC said.
Now, though, phase two of that expansion is set to continue from Concourse G gates G8 and G13, according to a MAC release. The expanded space will create a 'wider central corridor,' the MAC release noted, as well as:
A 52% increase in gate seating, a two-story square atrium featuring high-level windows for more natural lighting, along with more restrooms and concessions venues. Additionally, international arrivals access will be extended to 13 gates from the current 10, with other improvements to Customs and Border Protection passenger processing spaces.
Phase two of the Concourse G expansion is scheduled to be completed in 2028, the MAC release said. Of course, this isn't the only expansion set to take place in the coming months at MSP. It was just last month that MAC announced a major upgrade and expansion that will take place at MSP's Terminal 2.

With all these improvements planned, it's not a surprise MSP was once again named the best airport in North America for the third year in a row last year, marking the seventh time in the last eight years it won that distinction.
