For as long as I can remember, every time I have been to Little Falls, Minnesota I have always at least driven by the dam. Most of the time it's to avoid one extra traffic light on my way to St. Cloud, but I am always genuinely interested to see how much water is moving through it.

I drove past there this April morning after my dentist appointment and had to stop and get a picture. All units were open and water was flowing through like crazy. I have never in my life seen rapids that extreme coming from the dam. And not only that, the water level was the highest I can remember seeing as well.

The Little Falls Hydro Station is one of 11 operated by Minnesota Power. This dam has been producing renewable power for over 100 years! It originally opened units 5 and 6 in 1906, then in 1920 units 1-3 opened. Unit 4 was opened in 1979.
