Is Minnesota Really Home To One Of The Most Impatient Cities In The US?
When it comes to patience, where do Minnesotan’s rank among others from around the country? When it comes to sports, I’d have to say that Minnesota fans are patiently impatiently, seemingly always having to wait until next year with the exception of the 1987 and 1991 seasons with the Twins.

But overall, are we patient people? Some would say those who travel in St. Cloud on a regular basis have to be with how long some of the traffic lights hold.
The website Solitaire Bliss, which I had never heard of before finding this story, conducted a study on patience in the 42 largest cities in the county. They determined that Minneapolis is the 10th most impatient city in the United States.
There were 14 factors that came into play in determining impatience such as traffic, technology, customer service, waiting in long lines, airports and government related services.
Technology seemed to be the biggest aggravation for most folks in Minneapolis. Minnesotan’s, especially those in Minneapolis want what they want, when they want it. Technology issues could also create customer service problems as well.
Minneapolis trailed these cities in the Top 10: Orlando Florida, Omaha Nebraska, Albuquerque New Mexico, Tampa Florida, Baltimore Maryland, Columbus Ohio, Washington D.C., Portland Oregon, and Kansas City Missouri.
I totally agree with Baltimore and Washington D.C. being on the most impatient list, sometimes I’m surprised that people actually stop at the red lights there. Being a pedestrian in those cities comes with special risk factors.
The most patient city was a little surprising to me as well; Boston Massachusetts. I’ve been to Boston several times, and “patient” is not the first word that comes to mind for me. Although I will say that driving there wasn’t nearly as bad as I’ve found it in other places.
Another city that made the most patient list was Philadelphia. I’m guessing whoever put this study together has never been there. Again, been there several times and patient or pleasant overall is not how I would describe that city.
Charlotte and Greensboro NC were nineth and tenth on the most patient list. I’m guessing Charlotte got there in part because of how terrible the Charlotte Hornets basketball team is, and lately you could lump the Carolina Panthers in there as well. Similar to Minnesota fans, those in North Carolina keep hoping for next year.
I’m from North Carolina, have been to Charlotte tons of times and I found getting around Minneapolis a whole lot easier than the Queen City of the South.
This survey said that overall men were more patient than women, which really makes me question the results as well. Speaking from personal experience, that is not the case in my house.
Again, there are a lot of factors that went into the results and there were people that are much more gifted than me at math overseeing this study that led to those results. But, take this survey for what it’s worth, and hopefully this has caused us all to slow down a bit and think about how patient we actually are.
