Pick your favorite winter/holiday event, chances are it will be operating differently or not at all this season.

The popular ice castles attraction in the Twin Cities will not be back in the 2020/2021 winter season. Ice Castles, which is based in Utah, has operated six locations across North America. However, this year the company is scaling back and will have four locations. Those locations will be operating at a reduced capacity to follow COVID-19 guidelines.

For the past six winter seasons, the ice castles have drawn in thousands of people to explore the frozen architecture in the Twin Cities. Last winter, Ice Castles' Minnesota location was at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton. In year's past they had locations in Stillwater, Excelsior, Eden Prairie, and at Mall of America.

Ice Castles CEO Kyle Standifird said in a statement:

We would like to thank everyone who has supported Ice Castles over the years by visiting our Minnesota location. Although we have decided not to bring Ice Castles back to the Twin Cities this winter, we look forward to returning to Minnesota in the future.

The company said that they are hopeful to bring the event back to the area in 2022. For this winter, we will have to channel our favorite ice queen Elsa and let it go. Or we can attempt to make our own ice castle, but the former option sounds a lot less dangerous.
