I Need Some Advice From Cross-Country Skiers

I probably should have started thinking about this before now, but there's plenty of winter left for cross-country skiing. As long as it's above 25. 

This is the year I'm embracing winter. However, I'll embrace it from the comfort of my living room when it's colder than that. It was about 27 degrees when I took this photo over the weekend, and without any wind, it was lovely!

So I decided that maybe with enough snow and a good trail, this is my year to try cross-country skiing. I'm more of a downhill girl, and have only been on cross-country skis once, but I'm willing to give it a go.

So my questions are:  Where are the best places to cross-country, and where is a good place to find some used skis?  I don't want to break the bank for new ones just yet. Thanks for your help!
