Frozen Funds – Can Minnesotans Still Get Financial Aid For College?
COLLEGE OR NO COLLEGE
High school graduation is right around the corner, and with that, many consider going on to a 4-year or 2-year college to further their education. Many students and their families are now concerned that financial aid may not be available to help their kids afford it.
IS FINANCIAL AID STILL GOING TO BE AVAILABLE?
With all the changes happening in the federal government right now, many people who are thinking about going to college have been worried. Federal assistance to help families afford a college education has been available throughout the years. Many are wondering if FAFSA is going away. Their fears are valid. Will they be approved for financial aid, and then find out later that it won't be distributed?

DID THE TEMPORARY FREEZE AFFECT FAFSA?
With the temporary freeze that was imposed by the White House on many federal grants and loans, I can see why students and their parents would be concerned about their college futures.
According to AP, FAFSA remained available during the temporary freeze that had been imposed on federal grants and loans.
APPLICATIONS ARE DUE IN JUNE
FAFSA has not been paused, and the free application for Federal Student Aid is still available for students to complete. If you are a student and thinking about going to college, you are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA forms.
If you or your child wants to attend college in 2025, applications are due on June 30th, 2025.
With that being said, consider the college you are applying to because each college has its own deadline for applications.
THE FOLLOWING WILL NOT BE PAUSED
The US Office of Management and Budget said that 'Funds for small businesses, farmers, pell grants, Head Start, rental assistance, and other similar programs will not be paused.'
