From Crisis to Care: Lake Superior Zoo Welcomes 200 Rescued Animals
The Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth stepped up in a big way when SeaQuest in Roseville closed, they recently took in 200 of the 800 animals left behind when the exhibit closed due to financial issues. While, the Duluth zoo is stepping up, they really weren't prepared to handle all the new animals, so they are asking for some help.
The Superior Zoo posted about their circumstance:
Let's recap - in February SeaQuest Roseville closed their doors due to bankruptcy. This left over 800 animals in need of placement. Thankfully the Association of Zoos and Aquariums was contacted to reach out to accredited and vetted facilities to find homes for as many animals as possible. One week ago, animal care staff from the Lake Superior Zoo went down and came back with about 200 animals. Some animals will reside permanently at the Zoo in Duluth, some are here to rest and recuperate before going on to their final destination.
The Lake Superior Zoo is fundraising to help with the cost of veterinary care for the SeaQuest rescues in our care. Learn more and support here;
Thank you to all who have donated and shared this effort.

SeaQuest quietly closed it's doors in February, and it was discovered that hundreds of animals were left behind, multiple locations have closed due to the bankruptcy proceedings. Currently listed on the SeaQuest website are locations in Nevada, California, Utah, and New Jersey.
