Dog Mayor of a Northern Minnesota Township Passes Away
A city in Minnesota lost a valuable leader and asset to the community last week. Cormorant Township is in Becker County, about 2.5 hours northwest of St. Cloud, and has a small population with big hearts.
Their beloved mayor, Duke the Great Pyrenees, passed away last Thursday. Mayor Duke was first elected as a write-in candidate in 2014 and did three one-year terms as honorary mayor. Duke has used his popularity and platform to help raise money for the Humane Society, Crazy Days, and just bring joy to the small community.
Mayor Duke's owners posted on his Facebook page saying:
Our beloved mayor Duke went to doggie heaven today. He will be greatly missed. we will have a memorial for him in march or April at the Cormorant town hall. Thanks to all who express their condolences it means a lot of hard times like this. Sincerely,
Karen and Dave
A community favorite at Cormorant Daze in the the summer, and the cutest and fluffiest government leader in the state will be greatly missed. Rest easy Mayor.
