If you ask people who use streaming services, it’s rare to find anyone who just uses one. The average American has access to at least 3, and most people who use streaming sites say that there are too many of them.

And then, it seems like there aren’t enough shows we want to watch if you combined all three of those services to constitute what we pay for them. Am I right?

I sort of feel the same way about Social Media Platforms. I have X (twitter), Facebook and Instagram. I primarily use them to keep up with people and information, I don’t post that much.

I lump LinkedIn to that Social Media category as well, even though it’s more of a Networking Platform. I started the account several years ago because everybody else was doing it. I know, I caved to peer pressure.

I get regular emails from LinkedIn telling me that I’m getting noticed by people and they’ll show who has been looking at me.

Of course, the information I actually get is a standard “someone who works with ___________ organization”. I’m always curious how they found me, because I’m not active on LinkedIn as far as posting information, or honestly even reading information.

I understand they don’t tell me specifically who looked at my account because I don’t have their premium membership. I can’t justify the monthly cost versus the return I would get.

But, I thought, maybe I’m the exception and not the rule. Since I work in a building with media professionals, I did an informal poll of who uses the platform and if they had a “premium membership”.

Out of the 15+ I spoke with, most of our employees have a LinkedIn account, but none of them have a premium membership.

One of my co-workers told me they had a premium account for awhile because they thought the additional tools and features might help them in their networking and finding leads for new partnerships. The other reason they paid for the extra LinkedIn feature was to be able to see who was looking at their account.

Remember, without the premium membership you only get to see very limited information on who is viewing your page.

My co-worker who had the membership for a while said at $30 per month, it became hard to justify spending the money each month for what they were getting out of it. They felt they were mainly getting to see who was looking at their account.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I went to the site itself, or the app either. But I get emails every couple of days if not every day with details on someone new who has viewed my page and that I should pay for the service.

So, again I ask, does anyone in Minnesota have a LinkedIn Premium Membership? And if so, what are you getting from it that the rest of us don’t seem to understand.

Thanks for offering some insight.
