A little part of many Minnesotans' childhood just took a hit today. Dave Ryan, of 101.3 KDWB out of the Twin Cities, is retiring next week. The news was unexpected for many, and the reaction online was mostly congratulatory of Dave and his three-plus-decade run hosting mornings in the Twin Cities.

33 Years On The Air In The Twin Cities

Dave Ryan arrived in the Twin Cities after stops in Las Vegas, Columbus, OH, and Phoenix. He had been a morning show host for 13 years before coming to 101.3 KDWB with a history of taking stations to the top of the ratings.

It's no surprise that Dave was able to do that with his show on KDWB. The show has consistently been rated #1 in key demographics, specifically with women, for much of its run.

The Dave Ryan in the Morning Show was more than a show; it was a legacy, being one of the Twin Cities' longest-running and most beloved morning shows in recent history.

Growing Up With Dave To 'Working' With Dave

I grew up in the Twin Cities, and it was the coolest thing to have the radio on when you rode the bus to school. The station that everyone wanted to listen to was KDWB to learn what Dave and his co-hosts were talking about.

After high school and some college, I decided to pursue a career in radio broadcasting, which means you've got to intern at a radio station to graduate. I got my chance to work in the same building as Dave, just not in the same station.

I got to make small talk with him on the short elevator rides up to the studios, as well as ask him questions about what to expect after school. He always gave me thoughtful answers to what were surely inane questions being asked to him at 4 in the morning.

Where Does The Show Go From Here?

After Friday, May 22nd, Dave's last day on the air, it will be interesting to see where the show goes. Currently, he has three other co-hosts, Jenny, Vont, and Bailey, so the question remains: What will happen with the show? Will it go on with a different name, or will there be other changes in order to bring in another host?

Time will tell with the show, but Dave's announcement today hit me right in my feelings, knowing a piece of my childhood, along with countless others, is signing off for the final time in a little more than a week.

Beautiful Photos From Clemens Gardens

This weekend was a great one to get out and do something fun. I wanted to destress, so I drove over to Clemens Gardens for a nice stroll through the gardens. What a beautiful place it is. There are flowers everywhere, as well as fountains and statues. These photos only capture part of what's available to see, but in case you haven't had a chance to visit, now is a great time to view them, as everything is in full bloom. Take a look at some beautiful photos and then make a plan to take your own trip. All of your senses will thank you.
