I guess it’s a sign of the times. Who would have thought 20 years ago that a good percentage of the stores you shop in these days have a checkout that you operate yourself?

For many of us, we ran a cash register of some sort in high school, college or even beyond those points in life. Now it’s almost a treat if you find a place that has actual human beings working their registers.

Maybe that should become part of their slogan, “low prices and real humans working our checkouts”.

We’ve seen a similar situation in fast food restaurants. You go in, order at a kiosk, and put your card in the machine and pay for the transaction right there. Unless of course, you don’t have a card, then you have to go to the counter. Until now.

Numerous reports state that McDonalds is working toward having their kiosk machines be able to take cash and make change.

This will open up McDonalds employees to handle other duties and not have to cover the register. So, yes, this will be a matter of convenience for the restaurant and you.

One of the goals is to get customers their food in a quicker manner, and the restaurant chain feels this will be another step to doing just that.

There is one cavate to this move, this is an optional opportunity for franchise owners, who operate 95% of the McDonalds restaurants around the country.

According to McDonalds, their customers have told them they want faster service and more digital ordering options. So, if you don’t like the lack of human interaction when it comes to ordering your burger, it seems you are in the minority.

I can’t help but wonder though, is this one step closer to me having to cook my own burger after I take my own order?
