Two Minnesota Cat Cafe's Make USA TODAY'S 'Best Of' List

I love cats, but even I'm surprised that this actually took off.

USA Today has a new 'BEST OF' listing. It's USA TODAY'S 10 BEST CAT CAFES IN THE COUNTRY, and Minnesota has some on the list!

A coffee shop is a great place to get that little bit of energy you need to get through the rest of the day. But what about the stress you're feeling? Wouldn't it be nice to go home and have your cat love up on you for a bit? Some head bumps...some purring in your ear. Yes! It works for me. Cat Cafes are a real thing, and pretty much, you can get your coffee and visit with a cat.

THE DEFINITION OF A 'CAT CAFE'

Cat Cafes are defined as 'themed coffee shops or lounges where patrons pay an hourly fee to relax, drink coffee, and interact with free-roaming cats.'

You can vote for your favorite cat cafe through noon on June 22nd, with the winning cafes to be revealed on July 1st.

FOLLOWING STRICT GUIDELINES

Of course, cat cafes have to abide by strict health codes. You buy your food and drinks in one area, and then step into a separate, specially designed 'cat lounge' area to play and interact with the cats.

Patrons are usually asked to sanitize their hands and not to pick up or force interaction with the cat guests. Also, you are encouraged to NOT feed them unless you're giving them authorized treats and have permission to do so.

CAFE MEOW IN MINNESOTA

Cafe Meow has been open in Minnesota since 2018. Cafe Meow has two locations. The first is located in Roseville, and the second is located in New Hope, Minnesota. Cafe Meow has a cover fee of $10.50 an hour person per hour, and features up to 30 rescue cats at any given time for you to come visit and love. Their 'Happy Meower' runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1 to 5 pm.

They also offer senior discounts for adults 60+.

THE WIRED WHISKER IN MINNESOTA

The second Minnesota Cat Cafe mentioned by USA TODAY is The Wired Whisker out of Duluth.

They offer a cozy place to relax, beverages, and locally made baked goods. The Wired Whisker has a full coffee and beverage menu, and general admission is for visitors 12+. Booking in advance is encouraged, as well as taking photos. Admission ranges from $7 to $10 for 50 minutes a day.

Like most cat cafes, The Wired Whisker also featured adoptable cats, which gives you a chance to see the cat and their full personality before you take them home.
