Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- An altercation on a light rail platform near Target Field early Saturday morning led to a man falling onto the tracks and being fatally struck by an oncoming train.

That’s according to a statement released by the Minneapolis Police Department. Officers responded to the report of a personal injury/person trapped in the area of 5th St. and 1st Ave. around 1 a.m.

Police say responding medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene. The initial investigation indicates the victim was involved in a physical altercation with another adult male on the platform before falling onto the tracks and being hit by the train. 

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body and will identify the victim along with his cause of death. Homicide investigators are working to determine the events that led up to the deadly incident. 

So far no arrests have been made. Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact investigators or report it anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
