A Passion for Baseball, Dominic Austing is an All-Star Student [VIDEO]
This week’s All-Star Student is a senior pitcher and second baseman for the Cathedral Crusaders. Dominic Austing says playing Crusader Baseball is a tradition.
"Everybody knows that the program is strong so there’s an added incentive to do well and practice harder, and just have fun with it," says Austing.
Head Coach Bob Karn says Austing loves the game.
"I think his passion started as an eighth grader when we first started talking with Dominic, and each year he has had a greater and greater love of playing baseball," says Karn, "This year he’s certainly one of our best pitchers. We expect him to give us a chance to win any game we play, but he also loves to hit."
Austing says, "Everyone likes hitting, everybody wants to be on offense so when you get up there make the best of your at bats."
Austing is in his last year with high school baseball, and he’s looking for it to be a great last season.
Everything comes to an end like this, so just try to make the most of it, have fun with my teammates, and hopefully put up another number on the banner.
Karn says he’ll miss Austing’s passion for the game the most.
"His love of the game, and his willingness to practice any day; windy, cold sunny, it doesn't matter, for Dominic everyday is a good day for baseball," says Karn.
But Austing’s career isn’t coming to an end. If you enjoy watching this ball player you won’t miss him next year because he’s staying close to home.
"He has signed a letter of intent to pitch at St. Cloud State. I think he’ll do very well. He has good control. He has at least three pitches he can throw for strikes so I think he’ll be successful at St. Cloud State," says Karn.
"I’m kind of a home body," says Austing, "I wanted to stick around home, be by my family because having them come watch me is a big part of why I like to play. The guys at St. Cloud State, they were good guys, good program, I figured couldn't go wrong."
We leave this week’s All-Star Student with one of his favorite baseball memories.
I think it’s got to be last year at Target Field, I mean that game, most people thought it was lost, and somehow we came back. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that game.
