Johnny Cash - "The Rebel, Johnny Yuma" -- 1961

 

 

"The Rebel" was a western television series that aired on ABC television from 1959 to 1961. The theme song for the show was written by Andrew Fenady and Richard Markowitz.  The song went to Number 24 on the Country Chart performed by Johnny Cash.

IN THE NEWS:  In the early summer of 1961 for the first time, Dutch Elm disease is found in Minnesota among trimmed branches of elms in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood.  And East Germany erects the Berlin Wall between East and West Berlin.

Johnny Yuma was a rebel, he roamed through the west,  Johnny Yuma, the rebel wandered alone.

 


 

Tommy Cash - "Six White Horses"  -- 1969

 

 

"Six White Horses" is written by Larry Murray and recorded by Tommy Cash -- younger brother of Johnny Cash -- in 1969.  The song went to Number Four on the Billboard Hot Country Chart.

IN THE NEWS: Richard Nixon is inaugurated 37th President of the United States.  Also Nixon begins "Vietnamization" in Southeast Asia.

Roy Clark - "The Tips of My Fingers" -- 1963

 

 

This song is written and originally recorded by Bill Anderson.  In 1963, Roy Clark released a version of the song which reached Number Ten on the country chart.

Terri Gibbs - "Somebody 's Knockin'" -- 1980

 

 

"Somebody's Knockin'" is co-written by Jerry Gillespie and Ed Penney. This song was released in October 1980.  It reached Number Eight on Billboard's Hot Country Chart.

IN THE NEWS: Eight U.S. Servicemen are killed and five are injured when a helicopter and cargo plane collide in a desert raid to rescue American hostages in Tehran on April 25th.

Loretta Lynn - "She's Got You" -- 1977

 

 

"She's Got You" is written by Hank Cochran first recorded by Patsy Cline in 1962. Loretta Lynn recorded the song and released from the album, 'I Remember Patsy" in 1977.  The song reached number one in March of 1977.
