The Business Landscape Is Changing In Minnesota...And Not In A Good Way
Glimmers of good news have popped up for businesses this past year. Sadly, the negative is outweighing the good at the moment.
The Good News - one of the iconic stores that we loved when we were kids, Toys "R" Us, had massive closures throughout the United States, including in Minnesota. But the store is starting to have a little resurrgance! In the past year, Toys "R" Us opened a huge store at the Mall of America in Minnesota. It was such a popular opening that there was a massive line waiting to get in on opening day.

The Bad News - Every week, we are hearing about another business that is shuttering for good. Joann Fabrics announced all of its locations were closing in 2025. Walmart is shuttering a few non-performing stores. Kohl's and Macy's are also is taking note of stores that aren't pulling their weight and locking doors in several locations.
Sadly, "store closing" news has been part of our economic history and below are 50 well-known stores that have shuttered for good.

50 Retail Stores That Closed For Good in Minnesota and Throughout the United States
My first job in Minnesota was for a company called Mervyn's of California. If you never got a chance to experience it before it closed up shop in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, just walk into a Kohl's, it is practically a duplicate. The layout, the signs, the brands, and even the sales. It is so similar that I actually couldn't shop at Kohl's for years because I knew how much everything probably was at cost. (Psst...you are overpaying by A LOT!)
In 2004, Mervyn's was one of the many stores that Minnesota has said goodbye to over the years. It's not the only one though.
Below are about 50 stores that have closed throughout the United States, some that you probably remember shopping at when you were a kid.
