It's mid-August and I've already seen my fair share of fall signs from Mother Nature. A maple tree at the lake was starting to turn colors, the acorns are dropping like crazy at friends' houses, and my tomato plant looks like it is on its last leg (no matter how much I water it.)

All of these fall signs feel like they are showing up awfully soon. Mid-August is still very much summer. So I did some searching and found some old wives' tales and saying that match up with having a long, hard winter. Keep your eyes peeled for these signs, a lot of times nature knows what's coming well before we do as humans.
