My 30-Day Sugar-Free Challenge Is Over (Kind Of)
Against all odds and predictions (including my own), I have completed my 30-day 'Sugar-Free Challenge' (no sugar, no sweeteners, no simple, starchy carbs, no alcohol) following my viewing of the movie 'Fed Up' a month or so ago.
The movie had intrigued me enough to give it a try. I wanted to see if I felt any different; and I did. By far and away the biggest change in how I felt was an unbelievable increase in energy during the day. No naps required (and I get up at 3 AM). I went from feeling tired all the time, longing for my next chance to sleep -- to feeling consistently energized, alert, and bright.
So, have I given up sweets, snacks, alcohol for good? Nope. Not even close, but I have transitioned from eating a diet based on processed foods -- to one of cooking whole foods for myself. That's the change I'm taking away for good. Fruits, vegetables, meats, whole grains and the like. I just like how I feel, and want to keep feeling that way.
I guess the other change is that after watching 'Fed Up,' I can't help but still want avoid sugar. It doesn't paint a very good picture of sweeteners.
Anyway, 'Fed Up' is available on VUDU, Charter On Demand, and Netflix. I also bought a copy of the DVD and would be happy to lend it to you if you want.
You are what you eat (and I'm already sweet enough).
