March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and take it from a guy who was diagnosed with Colorectal cancer in 2002 -- if you have it, you want to find out early through screening; instead of late because of symptoms. By the time you have symptoms it's likely a lot farther along than you'll want it to be.

Colorectal cancer (Colon or Rectal cancer) is the third most common cancer in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer death. But it doesn't have to be this way; through screening, it is one of the most preventable diseases.

Colorectal cancer is most often found in people 50 years or older but is currently on the rise in younger groups. I was diagnosed at 36. Family history also has a significant impact on your risk. In fact, people with a first-degree relative who has colon cancer are 2-3 times more likely to develop the disease.

Colorectal cancer screening saves lives -- period. Screening detects pre-cancerous polyps and allows them to be removed before turning into cancer. Screening also helps find colon cancer at an early stage, when treatment is most effective.

Take control of your life and your health — if you're turning 50 or are experiencing abnormal symptoms, get screened. And urge those you love to do the same. And just for the record -- getting a colonoscopy is a piece of cake. Trust a guy that's had 20+.

What's up your butt? Get screened & find out. :)
