You and I have a date on Sunday, March 15th at 11 am for the Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight featuring Moe Bandy.

Moe Bandy was one of the most popular country singers of the 1970's.  He had a series of country hits in the later half of the decade that made many fans and critics believe he was one of the great honky tonk singers.

Moe never strayed far from the traditional country honky tonk fare.  He delivered his music with a sense of humor and cheating, drinking and patriotism were always the core of his songs.

Moe had a love for the rodeo.  In his high school years, he showed little interest in music but a great deal of interest in rodeos.  He tried bronco-busting and bull riding and by the time he was 16, both he and his brother Mike were competing in rodeo's all over Texas.   He was a six time NFR bull riding qualifier with his brother.  They were inducted in the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1997.

In 1979, Moe joined forces with Joe Stampley and recorded a novelty single called Just Good Ol' Boys.  The song topped the country chart and it led to a continuation of the partnership over the following years.  My favorite song is Bandy the Rodeo Clown written by Whitney Shafer and Hank Williams Jr.

Who was once a bull hooking son of a gun!  Who keeps a pint hid out behind chute number one.
