Ok Twinnies...we have next season to look forward to with (hopefully) some new faces, but who gets your support for the Fall Classic this year? Since it's election season, here's an appeal for #OrangeOctober...

So if we may...let's overlook the fact that S.F. swept  MN earlier this year on the West Coast, ok? And yes, Kansas City has incredible barbeque, waterslides, college basketball fans, and a baseball team on an inprobable dream run. As a California kid...here are my Top 5 reasons why Minnesota Twins fans should root for the San Francisco Giants in the World Series:

  1. Ummm...San Francisco is playing your American League Central Division rivals! If you don't like 'em during the regular season...how can you support 'em now? Especially when the Twins tied KC with a 6-6 record this year- but they get to go to the Big Show instead?!?!
  2.  Remember the first and last time the Minnesota Twins were in the playoffs? You might not remember the 1965 World Series- when the Los Angeles Dodgers took down the Twinnies in 7 games. But a lot of you remember 2006, when the Oakland Athletics swept MN in the Division Series. Yep- both teams y'all played are hated rivals of the Giants. (see #1)
  3.  Speaking of the Oakland A's, can the Giants maybe get an earthquake sympathy vote? 25 years ago, happening on this day one hour ago, San Francisco was rocked by the 6.9 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake during the opening of World Series Game #3 against it's cross-bay green & gold rivals. Play resumed 10 days later and O-Town swept the series four games to none. (see #2)
  4. The Twins didn't have to face the Giants in the 1987 World Series. Who knows if a first pro baseball championship would have ever hit the Twin Cities in '87 if the high-powered Giants didn't have an error in game 6 of the NL Pennant series against the Cardinals. Hindsight is 20/20, but all Minnesota fans can thank Giants outfielder Candy Maldonado for bobbling a routine fly ball and sending a weaker team to the Series :D
  5. It's simply a better winter vacation destination.Ok, now I've moved to non-baseball reasons to root for San Francisco, but how can anyone argue the lower Midwest is a better flyaway for snowbirds than California? And that leads to the easiest answer ever: they can't!

Thank you for your consideration, and Game #1 of the 2014 World Series is Tuesday night at 7PM on FOX 9!
