Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott shared his stance on gun control via social media on Monday, March 9. Since being posted, the letter has had hundreds of shares, likes and comments on Facebook.

In a letter dated, March 5, 2020 Sheriff Brott wrote, "My position has not chanced since taking office in 2009. I have been actively opposing these types of legislative efforts throughout the years including this year's "red flag" laws.

He went on to write, "I too have concerns for the safety of our children and all citizens, but don't believe more restrictive gun control laws will resolve the problems of escalating gun violence in our society."

Sheriff Brott also said, "I strongly support our citizens' protected right to bear arms under the Second and Fourteenth Amendments. Gun ownership and possession for law-abiding citizens is not a privilege, it is a right."
