Minnesota Cyclists Urged To Check For Recalled E-bikes
Minnesota is a bicycle friendly state. Especially at this time of year, folks are taking to the outdoors, pedaling around their neighborhoods to get exercise and enjoy the summertime weather.
Some of the folks we see riding around aren’t doing as much pedaling as others because they’re on an electric bike. The E-Bike craze is still going strong and really shows no signs of slowing down.
One reason E-Bikes are so popular is because now many of them have extended ride times because of longer battery life.

What's The Problem With These Bikes?
One popular brand of E-Bikes has recalled one model of their electric bikes due to a malfunction which could cause a crash. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reports Giant Bicycle has issued a recall for their Momentum Vida E+ bikes.
The problem with these bikes is that the fork steerer tube can crack, break or separate during use, which creates a crash hazard for the person riding it. Thus far, the company says they have received four reports of this happening. Thankfully, the riders in those cases were not injured.
These bikes were sold in metallic red, pearl white, metallic blue, indigo blue, happy mint green (light green), and panther black colors. These bikes were made in a low-step and a mid-step version that came in small, medium, and large sizes.
The word “Momentum” will be seen written on the downtube of the bike and Vida E+ will appear written on the top tube.
How Do I Know My Bike Has Been Recalled?
You can tell if your bike falls under the recall by looking at the third letter of the serial number, and if you see an “H”, “J” or “K”, the forks will need to be replaced at no cost to you. If you have a “G” in the third character position, the bike will need to be inspected by an authorized Giant Bike dealer to see if there is a problem.
The bikes in question were sold between September 2019 and May of this year.
