Do we live in Seattle???? That might be an exaggeration, quite a large exaggeration, but this rain that continues all day is not a normal experience in Minnesota.  It usually rains, then stops for a bit, may begin again, but this all day deal is strange.

My dog is also a diva.  He is only about 10 pounds, and he does not like the wet conditions, nor does it like the rain falling on him  He won't go.  Usually it's pretty easy to get him to do his biz outside, but when it's raining or wet, it's a whole other ballgame.

So, I did a little research to see how I can change this behavior, because I really don't feel like cleaning up any of his messes.

The suggestion is that I should get him a little rain coat.  Really?  He's already a diva dog.  Let's just make it even worse.  Although, if it works, maybe it would be worth it.  I can just imagine the looks from the neighbors.

The other suggestion is to get him to play a bit with a sprinkler going. Good luck.

Next, a temporary potty pad.  Like the kind you use when your dog is a puppy and they may have accidents inside. The idea is that they will use the potty pad inside and not go on the carpet, or the rug, or some other random place in the house.  Unfortunately my dog wouldn't use those when he was a puppy. He would grab it and shake it like it was a toy.  Fail.

Next suggestion, consult a professional.  Maybe even send your pet to an away training camp.  That's actually a great idea if I could find one that was affordable in the area.  Let someone who really knows what they are doing train my pet when I obviously don't have enough time or know-how to do that effectively.

There's a video I found discussing this very subject.

For right now, I'm watching him and hoping I can catch him when he needs to go and see if he will just go on the front step.  Then I just need to clean that off too.  But it's better than going in the house, right?
