Schmitt: Waterfowl Season Off to a Good Start
Waterfowl season got off a good start last weekend. That according to Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News. Glen joined me on WJON. He says based on conversations he's had with people throughout the state and conservation reports it was a better than average start to the waterfowl hunting season last weekend.
Rise in Interest Rates Has Some Benefits for Home Buyers
The rise in interest rates has slowed home sales in the St. Cloud area. That according to Craig Erlichman from Premier Real Estate Services in St. Cloud. He explains the rise in interest rates from as low at 2% to near 7% on a 30 year fixed mortgage has created what he calls a "correction" to the market.
Target Date to Have Sartell’s River Road Complete
Sartell has undergone a fair amount of road construction for the past several months. County Road 1, the River Road, has been a big Sartell and Stearns County project. Sartell Mayor Ryan Fitzthum joined me on WJON. He indicated the plan is to have this segment of County Road 1 complete by November 15th and that includes the bike path, and walking path.

Johnnie Football Drops in National Ranking
St. John's football is ranked #6 this week in the d3football.com top 25 poll. St. John's suffered their first loss of the season Saturday 28-24 in Arden Hills to #12 Bethel. The Johnnies had been ranked #2 in the previous poll.

Hit and Run Crash Damages Garage in Linden Township
The Stearns County Sheriff's Department is reporting a hit and run crash that happened on Sunday September 25th in the area of Beaver Wood Road in Linden Township. Alicia Mages from Tri-County Crimestoppers joined me on WJON. She says a vehicle was driving on County Road 44, missed the turn and crashed into the victim's garage located on Beaver Wood Road.
Reasons For Apollo and Tech Bathroom Policy
Tech and Apollo High Schools have implemented a e-hall pass system for bathroom use during the school day this school year. Apollo High School Principal Justin Skallerud and St. Cloud School Superintendent Laurie Putnam joined me on WJON. Skallerud explained the e-hall pass system has been running at the Junior Highs for a few years now.

Reasons Why COVID Can Be Worse on Some and Not Others
The COVID-19 virus continues to be something we live with even though the majority of people who come down with the latest Omicron COVID-19 virus don't get severely ill. Stearns County is Seeing an Increase in Food Assistance Requests
Inflation has many consequences and Stearns County's Human Services Department is seeing those. Michael Pooler is the Human Services Director for Stearns County. He says they are seeing an increased demand for SNAP food benefits. The Federal Poverty Guide determines eligibility and this can be updated every October.
