In celebration of National Video Games Day, I was thinking about my absolute favorite video game of all time. Don't get me wrong..I'm not a gamer...but I've had moments in my life where I DID get caught up in a few games. The Original Super Mario was probably my most favorite game; Which I enjoyed in the 1990's after the birth of my first son Drew.

MARIO WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL NAME

According to Ranker.com, Mario was NOT Mario in the beginning. Before he had a name, the creators simply called him Mr. Video...then came  "Jump Man."   But before any of those names, he was named Ossan; which simply means "Middle Aged Guy." I wonder... if it would have been introduced as "Ossan...The Super Middle Aged Guy," would anyone have even tried to play it? Yeah!  No. I don't think so.

WHERE DID THE NAME  'MARIO' COME FROM

I'm not sure if this is truth or myth, but Ranker.com also said that Mario got his name in a pretty unique way. When Nintendo, the company was supposedly late on their rent, Their landlord Mario Segale, looked the other way. In honor of his good deed, he was forever "immortalized" as Mario...The most popular video game mascot of all time. Some things were just meant to be, weren't they?

ON A SIDE NOTE...

On a side note...Mario was not originally supposed to be a Plumber. He was a carpenter; but since so many pipes and sewers were a part of the original arcade game, it seemed more "fitting" that he be a Plumber... (catch that?) and the rest is history.
