Never before has a defending World Cup Champion gone winless in the first two games of the opening round of the next tournament before today, when defending champion Spain lost it's second of two games 2-0 to Chile -- following their 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands on Friday, sealing their 'crash & burn' in the group stage.

However they are not the first defending champions to fail to advance beyond the group stage -- following the likes of France ousted in 2002, Italy in both 1950 and 2010, and Brazil in 1966.

Followers of Team USA are readying themselves for Sunday's Group G matchup, and the second game of this year's cup for the Americans, Sunday at 5 PM vs. Portugal on ESPN.
