Wolves Turn In Another Head-Scratcher At NBA Draft

It was a night of surprises Thursday at the NBA Draft, so perhaps it should not be surprising that the Timberwolves had a bizzarre draft of their own.

After watching reported targets Victor Oladipo (Indiana, 2nd overall), Ben McLemore (Kansas, 7th) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (Georgia, 8th) all get snapped up before the Wolves picked ninth, Minnesota once again drafted a player for another team and traded down in the draft.

The Wolves selected National Player of the Year Trey Burke, a point guard from Michigan, then immediately traded Burke to the Utah Jazz for the rights to the 14th and 21st overall picks. Shabazz Muhammed (UCLA) was taken with the 14th pick and Gorgui Deng (Louisville) with the 21st.

The Timberwolves then traded the 26th overall pick in the first round to Golden State along with Malcolm Lee for ‘cash considerations.’
