With Dreams of Becoming a Novelist, Karli Berry is an All-Star Student [VIDEO]

ST. CLOUD - With a huge stack of books, and drawings on her desk, Talahi 5th grader Karli Berry already has big dreams of creating moving stories.

When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, there was no hesitation in her response.

"Probably a novelist, I really love writing scary stories," Berry says.

Her favorite book genre is fantasy and she's taking part in a class trip to the College of Saint Benedict soon to learn more about drawing and storytelling.

Her teacher, Lynda Senger, says that her reading skills are already on par or even better than some adults.

"She's actually read three books that I myself have read, so we have these conversations and these little mini book clubs."

On top of this, Berry also loves playing music and is considered by staff to be a leader through technology in the classroom. She's an expert using a tablet for class work and is always willing to help her classmates if they get confused.

"When it comes to reading I still prefer the books but we do have some websites we can use for reading books on our iPads," Berry says.

Senger adds that her scary stories have left the classroom in the chills. It's common practice for her to dim the lights when it's her turn to read a story.

"I think she will someday write and illustrate her own book. Her stories compel all of us, she has us all awestruck with her word choice, her voice, she's just an incredible writer."
