MINNEAPOLIS - Winter is taking one last shot at Minnesota as the calendar turns to spring.

A mix of sleet and snow made Twin Cities roads slippery Saturday morning, resulting in hundreds of crashes and spinouts.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports 231 crashes and 64 spinouts on Twin Cities roads from midnight to 10 a.m. Saturday. No serious injuries were reported.

The accidents happened as a heavy band of snow moved from east to north-northwest through the metro area.

A spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Transportation says drivers forgot to slow down after a series of warmer days.

The National Weather Service reports 1.3 inches of snow at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport as of 7 a.m. New Richland in southern Minnesota recorded 5 inches of snow.
