Wild Season Ends With Playoff Loss To Chicago Thursday
The Minnesota Wild saw their season come to an end with a 5-1 loss to Chicago in game five of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. The Blackhawks win the series 4-1.
Minnesota had the majority of the scoring chances in the first period, but as the case has been the entire series, the Wild entered the first intermission trailing 1-0. Marian Hossa scored with just over four minutes left in the opening period.
Chicago pulled away with a three-goal second period. The Wild's Torrey Mitchell's goal at 10:11 briefly cut the Chicago lead to 3-1, but the Hawks responded with a Andrew Shaw goal just :35 later.
The Wild finish the season with a regular season record of 26-19-3, and made the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Upcoming free agents include forwards Matt Cullen and Pierre-Marc Bouchard and goalie Niklas Backstrom.
