Wild Bounce Back With Wednesday Win At Ottawa

The Minnesota Wild bounced back from an ugly loss to Montreal on Tuesday night with a 4-3 win at Ottawa Wednesday. Wild captain Mikko Koivu led the victory with three points.

The Senators struck first with a short handed goal just 5:54 into the first period for a 1-0 lead, but the Wild responded quickly on the same power play when Jason Pominville scored at 6:53. Pominville's 13th goal of the season was assisted by Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise.

Ottawa lead 2-1 in the second period when the Wild offense came to life after being outshot 18-6 in the first period.

Defenseman Jonas Brodin tied the game at two with a slap shot from the blue line that was helped into the net by a heavy screen by a trio of players at the 3:00 mark.

Wild forward Dany Heatley, who was booed lustily by the Ottawa crowd throughout the night, scored the go ahead goal at 6:15 on a play from behind the Ottawa net that found its way through the legs of goalie Craig Anderson. Heatley's fourth of the season was assisted by Brodin and Koivu.

Ottawa was able to tie the game at 8:57 of the third with a power play goal from Milan Michalek, but again the Wild came through with a response.

Koivu scored his fifth goal of the season with just over two minutes remaining in the third period to give the Wild a 4-3 lead and the eventual win.

The Wild are at Winnipeg on Saturday night.
