I don't think any of the jobs I've had have really been terribly difficult.  Mostly, I've just had to deal with difficult situations.

My previous jobs have been in customer service -- I've been a teller, personal banker and office manager.  Usually the person who answers the phone first.  That means you get to talk to the happy customers first as well as the unhappy ones.

In the past, I've had people shout, scream, swear and throw outright tantrums with me over the phone.  Sometimes in person as well.  You're told that you don't have to put up with that so you can tell the person you're ending the conversation but that's easier said than actually done.

Sometimes I think it's easier to let people vent and work with them to find a resolution to the problem.  It's not always possible but it's a challenge and a goal to work towards.  If you can solve that one person's problem and turn them in to a happy customer, it's totally worth it.
