Was head coach Leslie Frazier just buying time when he told us," Christian Ponder is still or quarterback." Or did this catch him by surprise along with the rest of us? When I say 'surprise,' I certainly don't mean 'surprised we need a QB.' I mean, 'surprised the Vikings did something about it.

Freeman's fall from grace in Tampa was epic, going from highly coveted draft pick, to franchise quarterback with 25 touchdowns in 2010, to being released by the Buccaneers last week.

Freeman's $3-million, one-year deal obviously throws a wrench into the Minnesota quarterback situation, likely paving the way for the team to part ways with Christian Ponder.

Matt Cassel, who started for the Vikings in their win over the Steelers in London will likely get the start again this week against the Panthers in Minneapolis. Even if Frazier had visions of making Freeman the immediate starter, it would be doubtful that Freeman could be ready for Sunday's game.

Freeman, who's only 25, but already has five NFL years under his belt, is expected to arrive in Minneapolis today.
