Vikings "Post Party" Secret Weapon Carpet Cleanup

The Vikings had a GREAT game yesterday. If you and your friends had those wild, jump to your feet cheering moments, your carpet may have experienced a few spills of this or that.

Here's the thing....Houses were meant to be lived in...but carpet scars haunt me!

My eldest son had some of his friends in from Kentucky for a whole week. As you can probably imagine, the "Man Cave" was a crazy disaster. Beer bottles EVERYWHERE. I knew I'd find some stains on my new rugs, and sure enough, there are two brand new stains right in view.

So I went in search of real cleaning products that can get rid of those stains. I think I found the buried treasure. Here are the main tips to spot cleaning your carpet.

BEST CASE SCENARIO- TREAT THE STAIN IMMEDIATELY

You know if you are in the room, this isn't a problem. But any other family member is never going to tell you they spilled until the stain has plenty of time to sit there and sink in. Like A WEEK! If you can address the stain immediately, BLOT IT. Don't ever scrub the carpet or rug. It will change the texture of the material, and even if the spots gone, you'll never see your carpet the same again. It will LOOK different.

BLOT BLOT BLOT

First thing to do; blot with a DRY sturdy paper towel or dish cloth. Using a white towel is best because you'll be able to see if the stain is lifting onto the towel.

SEAL OF APPROVAL PRODUCTS ONLY

IF the stain is still there after you've blotted it until it's almost dry, then bring in the carpet cleaner. Here's the key: Use only products that have this: The seal of approval from the carpet and rug institute.

EXCELLENT HOMEMADE REMEDIES THAT WORK

1/4 cup mild liquid dish soap with 1 cup of water. (I'm not sure what is considered 'mild.'

Two tablespoons of white vinegar with 4 cups of water. (I can't stand the smell of vinegar though. You decide if you want to use this).

THE SECRET WEAPON WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS

Hydrogen peroxide! Here's the recipe for success. I've got nothing to lose on the stain that's an eye sore in my room. The new stains downstairs....I'll have to experiment elsewhere before trying it..but here ya go. Here's what you'll need:

Fine crystal Sea Salt
Hydrogen Peroxide
Sturdy Paper towels or 2 white dish cloths

DIRECTIONS

First, dab dry the stain...as dry as you can get it. Then sprinkle sea salt liberally on the stain. Let it sit a few hours. Don't watch it. Give it 3 hours...it IS working.

After three hours, saturate the spot with Hydrogen Peroxide. Let it dry, then vacuum and blot the area again.
