The Minnesota Vikings have claimed veteran running back Ben Tate off waivers, after being cut by the Cleveland Browns. Tate rushed for 124 yards against the Titans earlier this season, but has only averaged 2 yards-per-carry since that game. With Adrian Peterson out for the season, the hope is that Tate will help fill the void.

Tate was expected to be the big gun on the ground this season for the Browns, but the emergence of rookie running backs Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell made Tate expendable.

Rumors around the league said there had been considerable interest in Ben Tate. The Vikings signing of Tate was done with the hope he will bolster the efforts of Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata.

The Vikings host the Green Bay Packers this Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
