The United States women used a 70-shot outburst to sink Sweden 6-1 Monday morning in Sochi, Russia. St. Cloud native Anne Schleper did not score a point in the win but took three shots in the game and was a +1 rating.

The US took a 3-0 lead after a first period in which they outshot the Swedes 29-1. Alex Carpenter, Kacey Bellamy and Amanda Kessel each had goals in the opening period for Team USA.

Monique Lamoreux and Megan Bozek scored in the second period for the US to give them a 5-0 lead at the second intermission. Shots were 51-6 through two periods of play.

Sweden got on the board with a goal at 13:04 from Anna Borgqvist, but the United States responded with a Brianna Decker goal at 16:58 to cap the scoring. Final shots on goal favored the US 70-9.
