EUGENE, OREGON – Melrose native Amanda (Thieschafer) Smock has qualified for the Olympics later this summer in London.

Twenty-nine year old Smock won the triple jump this (Monday) evening at the U.S. Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon.  Smock had a jump of 45-feet, 9-inches.  The top three finishers will represent the U.S. in the Olympics.

After graduating from Melrose High School, Smock attended North Dakota State University, where she was a three-time NCAA Division II National Champion.

Thieschafer Smock is the second Stearns County native to qualify for the London games, St. Cloud native Alise Post will represent the U.S. in the BMX bike competition.
