In what probably comes as no surprise to any of us here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Minnesota near the top in it's ranking of the best overall states.

After the USN&WR team looked hard at the health care, education, crime, infrastructure, opportunity, economy, and government of all 50 states -- they decided upon these rankings for 2017.

Top-10 Best States Overall Rankings

  1. Massachusetts
  2. New Hampshire
  3. Minnesota
  4. North Dakota
  5. Washington
  6. Iowa
  7. Utah
  8. Maryland
  9. Colorado
  10. Vermont

Specifically, Minnesota ranked highest in opportunity (2nd) and health care (3rd), followed by infrastructure (5th), education (11th), economy (12th), crime (17th), and government (24th).

At the bottom of this years rankings you find West Virginia (#41), Kentucky (#42), Alaska (#43), Oklahoma (#44), South Carolina (#45), New Mexico (#46), Alabama (#47), Arkansas (48), Louisiana (#49), and Mississippi (#50).
