Twins Blow Lead, Fall 8-5 At Houston
The Minnesota Twins (70-66) lost to the Houston Astros (75-62) 8-5 yesterday afternoon at Minute Maid Field -- squandering a lead, and missing an opportunity to pick up a game on Texas, who also lost, in the AL Wild Card race.
Twins starter Tyler Duffey held the Astros to two runs in 6 2/3 innings. The Astros trailed, 2-0, in the seventh when Jose Altuve beat out a two-out infield hit with the bases loaded to score a run, setting the stage for Astro's shortstop Jed Lowrie's dramatic grand slam off Trevor May, putting Houston ahead, 5-2.
The Texas Rangers remain 1.5 games ahead of the Twins for the second (and final) Wild Card spot.
The Twins now head to Kansas City for a three-game series against the first-place Royals that starts tonight at 7:10 PM CT.
