I thought the most expensive year of my life would have been last year when I bought my first house and my new car. It turns out I was wrong.

A new study found the most expensive year of your life doesn't happen until you turn 50. According to Daily Mail, it's because of four big reasons.

1. You're most likely still paying your mortgage. It still blows my mind when I think about how long a 30 year mortgage really is. I haven't even lived that long yet. I can't even comprehend it.

2. You've got kids to pay for--and kids cost money, especially if you're paying for their college. I think about how expensive college was when I was going to school and it makes me sick to think about how expensive it will be by the time I have kids who are ready go.

3. Health insurance is more expensive.

4. You might find yourself helping your parents out financially. It's hard to think about your parents getting old and needing help. It's just a fact of life.

Things will be a little more spendy throughout your 50s. Daily Mail says in theory your life will cost about $41,000 a year.  However, there is some good news--by the time you turn 60 things should start shaping up a bit--life will only cost you about $30,000 a year.

I assume this is why my grandma takes advantage of senior discounts. I would too! I've got 26 years before I need to worry about it (or to worry about it). I think I'm just going to start buying more lottery tickets.
